Skiathos is the first island of the Sporades Islands complex, approximately 4 n.m from the coasts of Pelion (Katigiorgi-Platanias).  The distance from Volos port is approximately 38n.m and the trip duration by boat is approximately 2.30hrs by ferryboat and 1.30 hrs by fast boat (hydrofoil).  Please note that daily ferry boats/flying dolphin service is available from Agios Kostandinos port.

Given that Skiathos is best know as the “Emerald of the Aegean”, visitors get “their money’s worth” by just glancing on the amazing scenery Skiathos offers, while approaching the port of Skiathos by sea.  69 golden beaches covering approximately 45 kilometres, limitless land covered with green plantation and pine trees and many historical monuments dating back to the 1800 make a scenery worth visiting and enjoying, on an island that has so many attractions and beauties to offer, while covering only approximately 45 square kilometres of area.  Also it is worth noting that Skiathos has approximately five thousand local inhabitants.

Skiathos economy had been based on farming and agriculture for many decades (since the ancient years) with olives being the main agricultural product.  Many people became writers, novelists and poets with Alexandros Papadiamandis and Alexandros Moraitidis being the most famous.  Through their novels, both Alexandros Papadiamandis and Alexandros Moraitidis praised the local religious and cultural traditions.  In turn, locals of Skiathos, known for their religious beliefs followed all traditions religious and cultural providing “food to the soul/spirit”.

On the south side of Skiathos island, visitors can choose between many fully “organized” beaches, all of which offer an array of water sports and restaurants, giving a send of ultimate luxury, while on the north side of Skiathos, visitors can get a “wild feeling” of solidarity ideal for relaxation; both cases offer superb escape opportunities from the daily city routine.

For our friends that like hiking and walking, Skiathos offers numerous walkways through small rivers and around the mountains, many of which can lead you to old chapels and monasteries that date back to the 1800’s.

Wondering throughout the town of Skiathos lets the visitor enjoy the cosmopolitan sense that the numerous restaurants, shops and night clubs offer.  Continuing their walks through the traditional stone paved small streets (Kalderimia), visitors can see much of the traditional island style of building with many stone built homes with nice gardens.  It is worth visiting the most traditional neighbourhood of Skiathos Plakes, and do not forget to visit the home of Alexandros Papadiamandis, along the main street of Skiathos, near the waterfront.

In closing, we would like to assure all guests that Skiathos is a great and safe place to be, as police and all medical authorities of the island strive to offer a great environment for your vacation.
